Fall Barrier: the modular system in length and height designed by STOMMPY to increase safety in storage areas
In response to a specific need of many customers, STOMMPY has created an innovative "mesh" system intended to increase the level of safety of storage processes, pedestrians and operators within work areas.
The loss of static balance of a product stored on itself, caused, for example, by an operator's incorrect maneuvering or sudden deterioration of the packaging, can give rise to an impact force that must be contained and counteracted if the dangerous accidental fall of the goods is to be avoided.
In response to this need, first expressed in the spring of 2019 by a major brand in the domestic chemical industry, STOMMPY 's R&D department immediately began the process of designing a new fall protection application: the STOMMPY Topple Barrier.
It is a goods fall arrest system that creates a safety grid along the perimeter of high storage areas, a modular structure designed to protect people and vehicles and capable of absorbing the impact of an accidental fall, dissipating the force on all its elements with an elastic and controlled reaction.
For its design, STOMMPY has once again held fast to its role as a technology leader in the industry, applying an original and innovative construction concept that combines the elasticity of high-strength polymer profiles with the increased rigidity of steel profiles inserted within them.
The result is a better balance between impact resistance, elasticity of absorption and dissipation of force over the entire structure; factors that allow the STOMMPY Topple Barrier to provide greater safety and higher performance than other solutions on the market.
After only a year after the success of the first prototype, the growing demand for the application of this system by companies sanctioned the start of its industrialization and the inclusion in the official STOMMPY product catalog of a wide range of modular sizes, capable of adapting to different heights and allowing for the widest possible use.
Today, in fact, the Topple Barrier is applicable to most manufacturing sectors and is a felt need in any company where storage is practiced by stacking materials, components and products on different levels without the use of specific shelving.
But while we can consider the Topple Barrier a system that is open to new areas of application and new scope for development, it should be remembered that it itself must be protected from accidental impacts from moving forklifts with dedicated Impact Safety Barriers, such as Guardrail or STOMMPY Impact Safety Bollards.
This appropriate design criterion ensures that they are maintained, amplifying their protective performance and reducing damage due to dropped goods, accidents, and shutdowns to restore storage areas.
According to Marco Chiarini, President of STOMMPY, what led to the creation of the Topple Barrier was "the best possible design path, since it was born from the efficient collaboration with the client company, which is the repository of both the need to be met and the technical data to solve it." The same data that at the end of the design became the technical specifications of a successful product.
